Briar History

In 1977, the Briar Construction and Paving Company was founded by Fred and Eloise Good. At the time, they specialized in tennis courts and small commercial projects, such as banks and service stations. Seven years later, their son, Michael J. Good, purchased the company and renamed it The Briar Corporation. The mission changed from small construction to total site development for residential subdivisions and commercial projects. As the company progressed over the last 35 years, it has evolved from a 2,200-square-foot office to an 11,000-square-foot office, as well as a 17,000-square-foot maintenance facility located at 4570 Orange Blvd. in Sanford.

Eventually, a third generation from the Good family, Bobby Lee Good, purchased the company from his father in 2018. Under Bobby’s leadership, the company has continued to hit new heights and expand its platform to better serve their clientele as a true one-stop shop. What was once a small business in 1984 — with just 11 employees — is now more than 300 and counting. “Leaders by Performance” is the registered trademark of The Briar Team and according to Bobby Lee Good, they tribute all their success to the dedicated, hardworking team members that continue to live by this motto and sacrifice every day for the betterment of the company. Quality, commitment, dedication, accountability, and on-time delivery are a few of the many reasons why The Briar Team continues to be a leader in the construction industry today. Briar’s mission statement is, “To seek the best available clientele in the private and commercial development industry and provide them with service and performance unobtainable from our competitors. We want to work with clientele that helps our reputation as much as we help theirs.” With this mindset, The Briar Team has maintained business throughout Central Florida, with major residential developers, such as D.R. Horton, Taylor Morrison, Meritage, Lennar, Park Square, Pulte, K. Hovanian, Minto Communities, M/I Homes, and many more. On the commercial side, Briar has gained the trust of many large companies, such as the Williams Company, Brasfield & Gorrie, Walker & Company, Whiting-Turner, and many more. The vision for the next 20 years is to continue providing quality service, as well as outstanding leadership and guidance to the younger generation.

The Briar Team understands the importance of family and operates with a family-first mindset. Good pay, good benefits, and bonuses are what first come to mind when retaining people, but The Briar Team takes it one step further. The primary reason people work is for the benefit of their family and is why The Briar Team tries to keep everything in balance. Outside of competitive wages, bonuses, good benefits, 401(k), profit sharing, 10-year $10,000, 20-year $20,000, and 30-year $30,000 loyalty bonuses, The Briar team will not sign a project more than 60 miles from their facilities. With this strict radius, each coworker can get home at a respectful time and spend time with their family every night. When joining The Briar Team, you are not considered an employee, you are considered a family member, and family always comes first.
